Juan Enrique Alonso is uniquely passionate about teaching the tuba and euphonium, having gained an unmatched experience as a teaching assistant to international grammy-nominated artist, Dr. Aaron Tindall, at the renowned Frost School of Music, as well as at the acclaimed Eastman School of Music, where he simultaneously served as Instructor of Tuba at the University of Rochester. He is currently on faculty at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he teaches tuba and euphonium.
Alonso was also recently a finalist for faculty positions at the University of Kentucky, Peay State University, and the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. He has recently been invited as a guest artist to the Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference and to give a masterclass at the University of Tennessee-Martin, Tyler Junior College, and Southeastern Oklahoma University. He has additionally worked extensively in the Dallas, TX metroplex, teaching grade school levels at various stages of musical development, as well as served as a music history and music theory instructor. As a founder of the Tuba and Euphonium Charity Series (TECS), Alonso is committed to promoting educational opportunities to students of various backgrounds and ideals of diversity, equality, and inclusion.

As Adjunct Lecturer of Tuba and Euphonium, I teach tuba and euphonium lessons to music performance majors, music education majors, and music minors. My teaching philosophy revolves around a strong emphasis on fundamentals, which are the building blocks to effective musical communication. I allow students to explore various paths that allow them to find their musical voice, presenting them with the necessary tools to craft a convincing musical message.

At the University of Rochester, I served as Instructor of Tuba, providing primary lessons to students from the various river campus locations. During this time, I performed regularly with the Cordancia Chamber Orchestra and additionally appeared with the Nazareth College Faculty Brass, as well as coached a brass sectional of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
